In this series, you’ll get to meet our team and learn about what makes them the best around (in our humble opinion).
Meet Kristin Bigness
Sr. Creative Manager | Explorer, and Musician
How would you describe what you do for your job? What's a day-in-the-life look like?
On a daily basis I work on creative direction, art direction, and UX/UI design for Seer clients.
Seer's creative team's purpose is to bridge the gap between digital marketing and the creative process.
So, one day I might be reviewing an analysis and providing creative direction for new content or digital assets. On another day, I’ll use a variety of data sources to recommend updates to a client's site navigation, design new landing pages or create paid social ads.
What's something some people may be surprised to learn about you?
Maybe that I did the Everest camp basecamp hike with my partner and some friends in 2018!
And to be clear, that does not mean climbing Everest like my mom tells everyone!
But yes it was a 12 day hiking trek and an experience I will never forget.
How would you explain what it is like working at Seer to an alien?
The work at Seer is challenging and there is never a dull moment! I've been here for 8 years and I'm still always growing, learning, and stretching my limits.
"The people are smart, kind, humble, and hard-working. Simply put, they are the best."
You've been the lead singer in the band the Bigness, tell us more about your music!
Music has always been a big part of my family. My dad, my grandfather, and my uncles are all musicians.
I first started music when I was in first grade with piano lessons. In sixth and seventh grade, I decided that I wanted to be able to play anywhere and accompany myself so that's when I learned guitar.
From there, guitar was really my primary instrument and I played solo for a long time. I was in multiple bands through and in high school was even in a feminist punk rock band.
Post-college after I met my partner, I played bass in his band and eventually we decided to make a band around my solo work which is how The Bigness, our band was born. And that has been our focus since 2011 when we released our first EPs.
Long story short music has always been a big part of my identity. It is what I do to to process the world around me and to connect with others.
Where do you live? What should we not miss in your city if we come to visit?
I recently moved to Ithaca, NY. The "Ithaca is Gorges" cliche exists for a reason.
There are so many stunning waterfalls and gorge trails. If you visit, I'd highly recommend Treman State Park, Buttermilk Falls, and Cascadilla Gorge!
What is your favorite part of your Seer career that isn't part of your job description?
I love the opportunity to mentor others. I've gotten the chance to do that in a lot of different ways at Seer.
Primarily, it's with other designers on the Creative team or folks from other divisions with which I collaborate regularly.
But a huge shoutout to Lauren Boyd from the People Team, who connected me with another opportunity to do so.
Lauren regularly volunteers with Hopeworks, and she's connected me with young designers at that organization so I can help with portfolio reviews.
It's exciting to see such talented people and to be able to play a small role in their development.
