Meet Jennifer Hester
Sr. SEO Associate | Animal Whisperer
How would you explain what it is like working at Seer to an alien?
"Imagine your whole life you've been the smartest person in the room. Then you go to work at a company of 200 of those people."
While it's tricky to adjust to realizing you have much to learn and that digital marketing is complicated and always evolving, you also get to work with the nicest, most genuine, caring, humble folks.
Working at Seer means you'll have to use your entire brain every single day alongside the nicest people you've ever met.
What is your perfect weekend day? Describe what you would do and who you would be doing it with!
Walking around Philly with my boyfriend.
Enjoying all the parks in our neighborhood in Bella Vista, getting coffee at Wawa, reading on my rooftop deck, and eating some pasta. Have y'all been to Crybaby Pasta?! Yum.
How did you end up working in SEO? What do you like most about it?
I studied public relations and English in college and thought my dream career was in marketing for book publishers.
The summer after graduating college, I attended the Denver Publishing Institute and heard from several publishing folks that if I wanted to make good money, I was barking up the wrong tree.
I then went back to the drawing board, got a job doing B2B public relations in Atlanta, and realized that emailing journalists all day was much less fun than the techy-looking digital marketing this one guy was doing over in a corner.
I asked him to teach me everything he knew, and voila! My SEO career began. I love the combination of creativity and analysis that goes into SEO. It's also always shifting, so once you think you cracked the puzzle of performance, Google updates and think again! I like being kept on my toes.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I would talk to animals!
I grew up with cats and just love them. And they're such weird little enigma creatures, and I just want to talk to them.
Or birds! Although I don't know how much they have to say - ha!
There’s this bee that flies around our deck who paces for hours and will just go back and forth. So anyway, quirky, but, I always want to take a beat and be like ... dude, what are you doing?
Where did you grow up? If you would like to share, what was your childhood like?
In Gadsden, Alabama.
Sometimes I hesitate to tell people I'm from Alabama because so many people have never been and I assume their perceptions are negative, but honestly, growing up there was largely wonderful and it's a great, diverse and growing state.
Roll Tide!
Who are some of the people in your life who inspire you the most and why?
My family.
My parents both taught me so much about how to work hard, how to be a good person, how to appreciate and cultivate art in your life, and how to find joy in every day.
Favorite quote or piece of advice?
My mama always told me to bloom where I was planted.
